Would you also setup the Finnex Planted+ 24/7 ALC as 70% R, 40% G, 20% W and 10% B?

Or what would you suggest?

Thanks and great article

But if i want to spend less money, is it possible to have some informations about DIY LED lights?

With Cre XPG family for example.

Despite reading this information, a detail continues to complicate me that I have not been able to find out anywhere.

How do I determine the number of LEDs per color to use in a home screen?

Thank you.

Hey, thanks for being a reader!

In my opinion – absolutely go with 2x Finnex on the 90-gallon if you’re going for a planted tank and don’t forget to ramp them up a little for depth penetration. The Fluval Marine 3.0 doesn’t have too many red/warm white diodes overall, and their “full spectrum” mode is more suited for, as you said, corals – lots of blue and very little red.

If you go to Fluval’s website you can find the spectrum range of the Marine and compare it to their freshwater version:

https://fluvalaquatics.com/us/shop/product/plant-3-0

and

https://fluvalaquatics.com/us/shop/product/marine-3-0

Scroll down to “Full Spectrum Flexibility” on each page and you’ll see the massive difference in diode colors. It’s basically the same between the Marine 3.0 and the Finnex 24/7.

I hope this was somewhat helpful,
Momchil

I have sort of a dilemma. I have a 90 gallon that I was going to use for a saltwater tank but I’m thinking of going to a planted tank. I have a 125G freshwater that I have had for years but only fake plants. I bought two new Fluval marine 3.0 lights for the 90 and I have two Finnex 48″ 24/7 that I only use one on the 125G tank. My question is….Should I use the two finnex 24/7’s on the 90 gallon ( two foot depth) and put just one of the marine lights on the 125 or what I would really like to do is use the new Fluval Marine 3.0’s on the 90 and set them for max red and some white and blue…The marine lights are pretty customizable but obviously they were meant for coral and not freshwater. Thoughts?

Hello,

Just refer to the “Which LED lights should work best according to your planted aquarium’s size and gallon capacity?” section of the article and read the recommendations about 90-gallon tanks with low-demand plants.

The 90-gallon tank is unusually deep and you’ll have floaters, so, perhaps, go with 2 fixtures side by side (Beamswork DA FSPEC 0.50W Pent).

Also, make sure to plant a good amount of plants in there so that all the incoming light gets “used up”. if there’s too much light and not enough plants to employ it, some algae may crop up.

Let me know if this helps.

Momchil
