Hey, I have not had any issues using it in a prior shrimp tank I had, and I do not believe the grade mattered in that tank either. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks!

I don’t have experience with that kind of setup in particular but I don’t think you should worry. I know of people who have done it in thier Mbuna tanks and there were no complaints in that regard.

Go wild, IMO.

I used BDBS in all my tanks. What are your thoughts about mixing the sand with aragonite sand to save some money? My mbuna tank has mostly aragonite currently. I’ve read that mixing could cause the sand to compact more.

Take the leap, Frog.

Medium grade should do the job. Finer grades keep better and would probably be easier for sand sifters to go through. The latter is just speculation though. Either way, you should be good as there are tons of people already using the thing. 🙂

Thank you. However, I still am reluctant about using it for my geophagus. Maybe, I should just buy it to see for myself. Would medium grade be okay for the sifters?

Please clarify and thanks for your article. I found it to be extremely well-written and a valuable introduction to setting up a planted tank.

Best regards!
